OVERVIEW
An inexpensive, effective arial fire support platform, the TME-180 Waspnest is intended to dart in, pepper the target with powerful short range missile fire, and then pull back and open fire with long range missiles.
CAPABILITIES
The TME-180 is a moderately fast helicopter with dual counter-rotating blades. Its firepower comes primarily from two short-range missile six-pack on electrically actuated hardpoints at the end of thick, stubby pylons, and is supported by a chin-mounted long-range missile five rack. The pilot and gunner are well protected (compared to other helicopters) by three and a half tons of armor.
DEPLOYMENT
The Waspnest is a common air-support vehicle in several resource-poor armies.
