| C Cpny | The First Scolopendran Irregulars Division is an integrated combat unit consisting of "volunteers" from Inner Sphere and Clan militaries. Coming from a wide variety of backgrounds, the First Scolopendran uses many different tactics and an innovative training regimen to be an effective fighting force in spite of (or because) its great variety. Consisting primarily of an Inner Sphere Regiment and a Clan Cluster of both first- and second-line designs, the First Scolopendran acts as its own Opposition Force (OPFOR) in training exercises and wargames, simulating Inner Sphere/Clan engagements, Inner Sphere/Inner Sphere engagements, or, more rarely, Clan/Clan engagements. Clan and Inner Sphere mechwarriors are trained to work together closely, allowing them to act in the combined Clan/Inner Sphere lances and stars becoming more and more common in the Inner Sphere of the 3060s. Being a mercenary force, the First Scolopendran often sallies out on campaigns of profit, although its contracts are tempered somewhat by the idealism displayed by its commanders. They generally take defensive contracts, although they have been known to accept offensive contracts against states they believe to be oppressive or under poor leadership. Nonaligned with any Successor State but traditionally close to House Steiner, they sided with House Davion in the Federated Commonwealth Civil War but have returned to their generally apolitical policies. They are, however, most certainly ideologically opposed to the Word of Blake and thus Houses Marik and Liao by association. It is believed that several recent incidents of damage to Word of Blake resources in the Free Worlds League and the Capellan Confederation can be contributed to lightning raids of the First Scolopendran. As they are a self-sufficient force, complete with transportation, aerospace, and armor support sections, this is quite possible. |
