I was poking around in some of my old logs and I came across something in my chatroom from a while back. It's not much, but I do think it's interesting. I was looking over Gene Ray's website www.timecube.com because it's a perfect example of psychotic writing and I wanted to write a psychotic character. The man is mad, but not illogical. A psychotic thinks himself completely logical; he simply applies an alien logic to the world around him. If you can determine the logic structure he uses, he can make a lot more sense to you.
Of course, now I have to reread the character I wrote based on this to try and get back into his head. Sigh. How I suffer for my art.
[11/30/2006 7:40 PM] <Scolopendra> I've figured it out, at least in part.
[11/30/2006 7:42 PM] <Scolopendra> I never thought I'd say that about Time Cube, but I _think_ I realize how he's perceiving things.
[11/30/2006 7:44 PM] <Eadwacer> Oh dear lord no
[11/30/2006 7:44 PM] * Eadwacer calls a shrink to save you
[11/30/2006 7:45 PM] <Scolopendra> Already got one. No, here's the thing. He's psychotic; he's looking at the same 'objective reality' we are but applying x-logic to it.
[11/30/2006 7:46 PM] <Scolopendra> His x-logic is this: Take a ball, and spin it counter-clockwise. Looking at it from above, it spins counter-clockwise. Looking at it from below, it spins clockwise. Basically, an ant on the north pole and an ant on the south pole would say the world is turning in opposite directions (relative to their viewpoints).
[11/30/2006 7:47 PM] <Scolopendra> These opposite rotations, added analytically to each other, equal nothing because 1 - 1 = 0.
[11/30/2006 7:47 PM] <Scolopendra> He's mad, not illogical.
[11/30/2006 7:49 PM] <Scolopendra> The whole 4-days-in-twenty-four-hours bit is just like saying there are four spins in each revolution of a four-bladed pinwheel. An ant on the edge of each blade would experience one revolution; their summed experiences would constitute four revolutions in one.
[11/30/2006 7:50 PM] =-= Euroslavia is now known as Euro|masking
[11/30/2006 7:50 PM] <Scolopendra> It's like crypto applied to psychology. What patterns are running through his head to essentially encrypt what we see into what he sees? What's the x-logic?
[11/30/2006 7:52 PM] <Scolopendra> And that's why he keeps referring to it as "Time Cube" when he keeps talking about four corners and sides. Because EVERYTHING is explained in observational duality, the Time Cube must have an anti-Time Cube.
[11/30/2006 7:53 PM] <Scolopendra> i.e. replace the ball in my previous analogy with a cube painted into four equal sections of different colors. The cube, singular, rotates in a single direction as observed from outside. As observed from top and bottom, it goes opposite ways.
[11/30/2006 7:53 PM] * Scolopendra is looking at it like a puzzle.
[11/30/2006 8:04 PM] <Scolopendra> "Each of the 4 corners of Earth is the beginning and ending of its own separate 24 hour day - all 4 simultaneous days within a single rotation of Earth. Place 4 different students in the 4 corners of a classroom and rotate them 4 corners each. Note that they rotate simultaneously wthin the same Time frame as if only one is rotating - just as the 4 different days on Earth rotate. 3D math applied within this hollow Cube would be erroneous math, as it would not account for the 4th corner perspective dimension."
[11/30/2006 8:05 PM] <Scolopendra> Now why he emphasizes four over any other given number is uncertain, but I think it goes back to his mental construct of the world.
[11/30/2006 8:06 PM] <Scolopendra> Dawn, dusk, noon, and midnight are not the most arbitrary of points. Also, because his internal insistence upon duality, a power of two is essentially guaranteed.
[11/30/2006 8:07 PM] <Scolopendra> And it's easier to compare the corners of a square than of, say, an octagon.
[11/30/2006 8:07 PM] <Scolopendra> "A mother and baby are the same age, as a 1 day old baby has a 1 day old mother." What this means, to him, is that the mother has not the definition 'mother' until she's had the baby.
[11/30/2006 8:11 PM] <Scolopendra> This is also why -1 * -1 must equal -1 to him, because only opposite dualities can cancel in his mind.
